Details

Clos de Tart is a Grand Cru monopole (ie one owner) located in the village of Morey-St-Denis in Burgundy. The 7.5ha walled vineyard was founded by the Cistercian nuns of Tart Abbey in 1141, who held it until the French Revolution when it was sold to the Marey-Monge family. In 1932 it was acquired by Macon wine merchant Henri Mommessin who sold it to the Pinault family in 2018. Since his appointment as winemaker in the mid 90s, Sylvain Pitiot has brought significant improvements to the estate.

La Forge de Tart is produced from younger vines (20 years old) from within the Clos de Tart Grand Cru, but classified as Morey-St-Denis Premier Cru.

This wine was purchased direct from the importer on release and has been stored in temp controlled conditions since that time.

"A portion of the harvest at Clos de Tart has traditionally been declassified as premier cru and given the proprietary name La Forge (after the original 12th century name for the site). These wines are tasted at the halfway point in their maturation, racked and blended, and then put back into cask to finish ageing. The 2019 La Forge is delicious, with ripe black fruit on the nose, a dense texture and a luxurious, silky finish."
93 points, Decanter Magazine.

"A more elegant and even fresher nose is comprised by a pretty blend of both red and dark pinot fruit, sandalwood, violet and a subtle touch of wood. There is better volume and richness to the attractively textured and refined medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract and a subtle minerality on the balanced, long and bitter cherry pit-inflected finale. This needs to develop more depth but considering the underlying terroir, that shouldn't present any significant problems. Outstanding!"
91-93 points, Allen Meadows - Burghound.
