I'll Be In The Garden Mix
Because sometimes we need a bit of quiet. And to decide what to have with dinner. 3 whites and 3 reds from our Work From Home Series.
Head Wines Head Red Shiraz 2018 - “There's a lot happening here, all of it good. 80% is sourced from the Eden Valley, 20% the Barossa Valley, co-fermented on skins for 14 days, matured in French oak (10% new), the barrel size ranging from 225L to 2250L. There's a poultice of red and black fruits and ribbons of fine, ripe tannins. You can't deny a wine like this.” 96 points, James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion.
Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cote du Rhone Rouge 2018 - The colour is plummy and dark. Lifted aromatics of dark cherries, blackberries and violets roll onto the palate revealing sour cherry, marzipan, pepper and spices. Abundant upfront flavour but not like Aussie GSM. Medium-bodied with good acid to balance its fruit, very fine tannins and a snappy dry finish, it gains weight as it opens up. Fresh, simple and delicious.
Scala Ciro DOC Rosso Classico Superiore 2018 - The Scala Ciro DOC Rosso Classico Superiore 2016 has a clear, dark crimson in the glass with classic Italian aromas of cherry and chinotto. On the palate, raspberry and cranberry notes meld with dried herbs, fennel and pepper. Clean acid and feathery light tannins give nice structure to this mid-weight and elegant wine. Deliciously smooth and savoury - add to this a couple of years' bottle age and the groovy label - what's not to like?
Rieslingfreak No.4 Eden Valley Riesling 2019 - "Fresh, bright, aromatic. White flowers, gooseberries. Talc and slate. Great lemon, limes, with a lingering acid back bone. The vibrancy of the palate has you salivating for more. A wine which will go the distance now and in time." Winemaker's notes. 95 points from James Halliday.
Domaine Pichot Sec Vouvray 2018 - Exceptional intensity - perfume, finesse and lip-smacking freshness. Old vine depth with texture and richness. 3 grams residual sugar (ie. dry) with refreshing balanced acidity. Stunning.
Bollini Pinot Grigio 2018 - “Straw yellow in colour, clear-cut and delicate on the nose, with scents of acacia flowers, minerals and pear. The fresh natural acidity supports the wine” Winemaker’s notes.
