I first met winemaker Michael Dhillon, of Bindi Wines back in 1996 when I did vintage at a nearby winery in the Macedon Ranges. Michael's fanatical pursuit of perfection culminated in him being recognised as Winemaker of the Year for 2022 in James Halliday's Annual Wine Companion Awards. I've enjoyed many of Michael's wines over the years and am pleased to still have a few (but not enough!) of them in my cellar.
Michael produces sublime chardonnay and pinot noir from his own vineyards, as well as a shiraz from Heathcote, and most recently a Col Mountain grenache.
"This vineyard was planted in 2014 to 11,300 and 22,600 vines per hectare. In this low cropping season the 4,750 vines produced just under 1,000 bottles. With nearly four years in bottle the 2020 Darshan is beginning to develop brown spice and undergrowth/earthy complexity to work alongside its signature rose fragrance and red fruit aromatics. It makes for an ethereal introduction. The palate is initially supple and fresh before building texture and drive through fine grained, gently chewy tannin. It will improve in complexity and finesses over the next five years and hold for five beyond that."
