Details

Clos de Tart is a Grand Cru monopole (ie. one owner) located in the village of Morey-St-Denis in Burgundy. The 7.5ha walled vineyard was founded by the Cistercian nuns of Tart Abbey in 1141, who held it until the French Revolution when it was sold to the Marey-Monge family. In 1932 it was acquired by Macon wine merchant Henri Mommessin who sold it to the Pinault family in 2018. Since his appointment as winemaker in the mid 90s, Sylvain Pitiot has brought significant improvements to the estate.

"Made with 55% whole bunch vinification, 65% new oak. Dense black centre with purple rim. There is a suggestion of an immense wealth of fruit here, though the detail is still to come. The depth though is spectacular. More dark fruit than red, but as ever both are in the equation. That little touch of wildness. Some very dark strawberries, and not quite a sensual finish but generous with very silky tannins. 13.8% alcohol and the best acidity of the three wines. Tasted: November 2021."
96-98 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.

"The 2020 Clos de Tart Grand Cru contains around 55% whole bunch this year with 65% new oak. It has a very limpid hue in the glass. The bouquet takes time to open but my word, it is beautiful, extraordinarily pure with black cherries, crushed stone, hints of pressed violet all exquisitely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a velvety smooth texture, fine acidity, the neatly integrated. Very sleek and sensual on the finish, this is a very sophisticated and somehow "complete" Clos de Tart." Dec 2021.
96-98 points, Vinous.

This wine was purchased directly from the importer on release and has been stored in temperature controlled conditions since that time.
