Bleasdale Second Innings Malbec 2020
"Winemaker Paul Hotker has this wine on a string, dancing to his every command. This has the gravitas of a great red wine that just happens to be made from malbec; its mouth-watering intensity of forest blackberries, cloves and black olive drawn out on the finish by ripe tannins."
96 points, James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion.
Included in James Halliday's 2023 Top Rated Cabernet and Family.
Medhurst Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2022
"Bright ruby red in appearance with a lovely crimson hue. Red cherry, five spice and floral notes dominate the aromas."
Winemaker's notes.
Frankland Estate Shiraz 2020
“While the bouquet and palate alike are richly endowed, the cool continental climate shuts the door on any over-ripe, pudgy fruit characters. So, tannins play along with the black cherry fruit and utterly delicious savoury undertow. Drink to 2040.”
95 points and included in James Halliday's Top 100 Wines of 2022.
Warramate Cabernet Merlot Malbec 2021
Increasingly referred to as Yarra Yering's 'Baby Dry Red No.1', this wine is a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon 25% merlot 15% malbec. It's 13.5% alcohol and is sealed with a screwcap. "Black mulberries and blueberry fruits with some bramble lift, a medium-bodied classic claret style. The succulent jubey fruit layered palate with some aniseed spice complexity and lovely chalky tannins. There is a brightness to the acid energy that underscores a wine of fruit purity and finesse."
Winemaker's notes.
Cirillo Estate Vincent Grenache 2021
One of the most underrated wines in the country. 100% grenache sourced from 100+ year old vines in the Barossa.
"Deep, bright, glowing young purple-red colour, the bouquet fresh and vanilla/chocolate over raspberry fruit, with a grapy/sweet fruit bonbon-like aspect. Choc-mint hints. Delicious sweet ripe raspberry flavour, not complex but it’s all about bright, bold fruit. There’s a fine sheen of tannins providing structure while it already drinks superbly young. Great value. (Screwcap)."
92 points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review.
Terre a Terre Crayeres Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2020
“92% cabernet franc, 8% shiraz. The Terre à Terre wines are never short of structure and this is another case in point. It’s quite perfectly formed, with graphite, chocolate, boysenberry and fresh blackcurrant flavours purring through the palate, aromatic herb notes then adding to the highlights. Fruit, oak, acid and tannin are all in harmony, and while tannin test the finish there’s still good flow there. I say this every year, it seems, but the value is quite exceptional here. This is a medium-bodied red, with fruit, with tannin, with insistence."
94 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
