Place of Changing Winds is the work of Robert Walters. I met Rob back in the 90s, since when he's had a stellar career in wine. He founded Wine Planet and successfully rode the dot com boom... one of the few to do so. He went on to start Bibendum, which has become one of Australia's top wine importers.
Rob started planting a vineyard in Macedon in 2012. This is a project of perfection, with 'no compromise, no regrets' being the motto. Robs dedication was recognised when Place of Changing Winds was awarded Best New Winery 2022 at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards.
"Deep crimson purple. An exotically perfumed bouquet, partly from the inclusion of one-third whole bunches in the ferment and 18 months maturation in used Stockinger barrels. The power and length of the wine are extraordinary, and the 'drink to' date should prove conservative."
98 points, James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion.
"Supple textured, deep and gently savoury, mellow red and black cherry fruit characters, sourness in a pleasant sense, alpine herbs, a slick dusting of clove and cinnamon, bright, blood orange acidity and licks of game meat, truffle and autumnal savoury elements. It feels fine and fancy, exqusiite in detail of flavours and beautiful texture. Sensational, really. Top flight."
96 points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
